700 Reed Rugs, the everyday Persian
The grade we sell to families who want a real Persian rug on the floor rather than a museum piece behind a rope. Woven in Iran, priced so you can put it in the room the kids actually use.
The rug you actually live on
At 700 reeds the loom carries fewer threads across the width, so the pattern is drawn a little bolder and the fine gradations you see in a 1500 aren't there. That is the whole trade, and we would rather say it plainly than let you find out at home. Everything else is the same rug: woven in Iran, the same classic Kashan and Tabriz layouts, the same dense wool-blend pile underfoot.
What it buys you is the freedom to stop worrying. This is the grade we put in front of people with a toddler, a dog and a full life, because a spill on a 700 is a Tuesday rather than a tragedy. Most of our 700 stock runs to the blues: deep indigo and navy fields, teal grounds, cream and rose medallions. It is the most colourful end of our range.

Every 700 reed rug we have in
24 pieces, photographed on the showroom floor in Dandenong rather than in a studio. Tap any one to see the weave up close.

Rooms this grade was made for
The family room
Sofa legs on the rug, television on, someone eating on the floor. A 700 takes it and keeps its looks.
A first home or a rental
Real Persian design without heirloom money, in a place you may not stay in forever.
Bedrooms and kids' rooms
Warm underfoot in a Melbourne winter, and cheap enough to be relaxed about.
Not sure this is your grade?
Reeds count the threads across a rug's width and density counts the weave down its length. Higher means finer detail and a longer life — it does not always mean the right rug for your room.
700 reeds, questions we get asked
No. It is the accessible end of a genuine Persian range, not a different product. The design, the origin and the pile are the same as our finer grades — the weave is simply less dense, so the pattern reads a little bolder. Plenty of our customers choose 700 for a busy room and 1500 for the formal lounge, in the same house.
This is the grade we recommend for exactly that. A denser pile hides everyday traffic well and the fibres blot clean quickly. Put a good underlay beneath it, vacuum gently with the pile, and it will look after itself for years.
Meaningfully less for the same size, which is the point of the grade. We price every rug for its exact grade and size rather than publishing a list, so message us the size you need and we will send the real number for both grades and let you choose.
The full range, from 150×225 cm up to 300×400 cm, with matching runners cut to your hallway. If your room falls between sizes, bring the measurements in and we will lay the real thing out for you.
